Slirp is Dead, Long Live Slirp - A New Approach to User-mode Networking

Explore a conference talk that delves into the evolution of user-mode networking, from the long-standing Slirp to the innovative passt project. Learn about the limitations of Slirp and how passt aims to revolutionize user-mode networking for qemu with a focus on security, performance, and network transparency. Discover the motivation behind passt, its current status, challenges, and future perspectives, including its potential application in KubeVirt and plans for vhost-user support to enhance throughput. Gain insights into the technical aspects of this new approach, including its implementation without dynamic memory allocation, strict seccomp policy, and packet and syscall batching techniques.
