The Road to Winch - Improving WebAssembly Startup Performance

Explore the development of Winch, a new baseline compiler in Wasmtime, through this 22-minute conference talk by Saúl Cabrera from Shopify. Delve into the limitations of ahead-of-time compilation for WebAssembly in server-side environments and discover how baseline compilation can enhance startup performance for certain applications. Gain insights into the anatomy of Winch (WebAssembly Intentionally-Non Optimizing Compiler and Host) and understand the key characteristics that make it ideal for fast startup in server-side WebAssembly applications.
