Envoy Metrics Demystified - Hands-on Workshop
Participate in a hands-on workshop that demystifies Envoy metrics, led by Nic Jackson and Kerim Satirli from Hashicorp. Learn to leverage Envoy proxy metrics for rich application insights, covering Envoy's topology and its relation to connection and request metrics. Explore the distinction between upstream and downstream metrics, their significance, and how to monitor common reliability patterns like retries and outlier detection. Gain proficiency in Prometheus PromQL and Grafana to build informative dashboards. Work through practical scenarios involving HTTP and gRPC endpoints, gradually building on core concepts to harness the full potential of Envoy metrics. Cover common metric types, Envoy topology components, application-level metrics for HTTP/gRPC, PromQL usage for metric insights, and visualization techniques using Grafana dashboards.
