重力波天体からのガンマ線バースト - 中性子星合体 - 第104回
Learn about neutron star mergers and gamma-ray bursts in this lecture from the 104th Kyoto University Marunouchi Seminar, presented by Professor Kunihito Ioka from the Yukawa Institute for Theoretical Physics. Explore the groundbreaking discovery of gravitational waves in September 2015, marking the 100th anniversary of Einstein's general theory of relativity, and the subsequent detection of a neutron star merger in August 2017. Understand how this historic event, which produced both gravitational waves and electromagnetic radiation across all wavelengths, ushered in the era of multi-messenger astronomy. Examine the controversial findings regarding the unusually dim gamma-ray burst associated with the neutron star merger, and learn about the off-axis jet model proposed to explain these observations. Discover the latest developments in gravitational wave astronomy and its implications for our understanding of the universe, including the surprising abundance of black holes and the future prospects of this rapidly evolving field.
