Exploring Equitable and Climate Compatible Futures
Delve into the complex interplay of climate change mitigation, global inequality, and sustainable development in this thought-provoking colloquium. Examine the challenges of implementing urgent global efforts to combat climate change in a world marked by stark disparities in emissions responsibility, financial and technological capacities, climate vulnerability, and adaptation abilities. Critically analyze recent global mitigation targets derived from IPCC-assessed modeled pathways and scenarios, exploring their shortcomings in meeting Sustainable Development Goals and their disproportionate impact on poorer regions. Unpack the regional assumptions underlying IPCC's global modeled pathways and discover an alternative framework for modeling and scenario building that prioritizes equity and climate justice in achieving a climate-compatible world.
