From Salty Salamanders to Bright Bugs - An Evolutionary Perspective on Life in Stressful Environments

Explore the rapid evolutionary adaptations of organisms to environmental stressors in this illuminating lecture by Dr. Gareth Hopkins from Western Oregon University. Delve into case studies that challenge the notion of evolution as a solely gradual process, examining how animals respond to modern ecological challenges such as light pollution and freshwater salinization. Gain insights into the fundamental principles of evolution and their critical importance for biodiversity conservation in the face of human-induced environmental changes. Learn how understanding these adaptive mechanisms can inform our approach to preserving life on Earth amidst increasingly stressful conditions for plants and animals.
