Scale Down Your Environmental Impact - Kubernetes and Sustainability
Explore the environmental impact of Kubernetes adoption and its alternatives in this 28-minute conference talk by Mary Karroqe and Zinnia Gibson from D2iQ. Delve into the challenges faced by the tech industry in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, as proposed by European climate law. Examine how Kubernetes' efficiency can reduce cloud costs and carbon footprints, while considering the environmental costs associated with its complexity and training requirements. Analyze whether Kubernetes is the most sustainable solution for smaller companies and individuals, weighing long-term benefits against initial learning curve costs. Compare Kubernetes to alternative solutions from a sustainability perspective, and investigate its environmental price tag. Learn strategies for developers to minimize their impact and determine at what point the Kubernetes adoption journey becomes environmentally productive. Visualize energy usage patterns as they scale from individual contributors to enterprises.
