Plunging Below the Ionosphere - Observations from C/NOFS Satellite's Final Orbit

Explore groundbreaking observations from the US Air Force's Communication/Navigation Outage Forecasting System (C/NOFS) satellite in this 25-minute press conference from the AGU Fall Meeting 2015. Discover how the satellite's final six-month descent through low-Earth orbit provided unprecedented insights into the near-Earth space environment. Learn about unexpected behaviors in this region and their implications for advancing fundamental knowledge, protecting space technology, and improving satellite re-entry predictions. Hear from experts Louise Gentile, Rod Heelis, and Rob Pfaff as they discuss the satellite's ultimate swan song and its significant contributions to our understanding of the ionosphere and its effects on orbital decay.
