Can Physics Explain Consciousness - Professor Steven Gimbel Discusses Quantum Consciousness
Explore the fascinating intersection of physics and consciousness in this thought-provoking 31-minute lecture by Professor Steven Gimbel. Delve into the quest for a Theory of Everything, examining how reductionism and dualism paradoxically align. Investigate Descartes' famous thought experiments and their implications for mind-body distinctions. Grapple with the challenges free will poses to materialist views and witness Gimbel's intriguing experiment on mind over matter. Unpack complex concepts like Élan vital, Schrödinger's equation, and quantum entanglement, considering their relevance to consciousness. Analyze how human observation impacts the universe and evaluate attempts to reconcile materialism with mental phenomena. Conclude by examining Neurath's Isotype imagery and contemplating how structures and interactions define life itself.
