Cambrian Explosion - More Like Precambrian Explosion and Cambrian Skeletonization
Explore the evolving understanding of the Cambrian Explosion in this 29-minute video lecture. Delve into the complexities of early animal evolution, examining the transition from Ediacaran to Cambrian fauna. Learn about the existence of complex animals predating the Cambrian period, the mass extinction of Ediacaran fauna, and the factors contributing to increased diversity and skeletonization in the Early Cambrian. Investigate the role of increased oxygen concentrations, predation, and mineral flux in shaping animal evolution. Gain insights into the challenges of interpreting the patchy fossil record and the mysterious extinctions of major reef-building organisms during the Cambrian period. Understand the reasons behind low biodiversity for the first 4 billion years of Earth's history and the subsequent increase in diversity after 600 million years ago.
