Turing Test for Free Will - Determinism and Unpredictability in Decision-Making

Explore the age-old question of free will in a deterministic universe through this thought-provoking public lecture. Delve into the intricate relationship between determinism, randomness, and free will, and discover how even in a completely deterministic decision-making process, outcomes can be inherently unpredictable - especially to the decision-maker. Examine the proposed 'Turing test' for free will, which suggests that any decision-maker passing this test, whether human, computer, or smartphone, would likely believe in their possession of free will, regardless of the universe's deterministic nature. Recorded in December 2012, this hour-long presentation offers a fascinating perspective on one of philosophy's most enduring debates.
