Hierarchy and Conflict in Human and Other Societies

Hierarchy and Conflict in Human and Other Societies

Explore a general, agent-based model of hierarchy and conflict in this one-hour talk by Bear Braumoeller from Ohio State University. Delve into the mechanisms by which social hierarchies reduce conflict, focusing on interstate relations. Discover surprising emergent properties of the model, including homeostasis, contagion effects like "balancing" and "bandwagoning," and institutional persistence. Consider potential interdisciplinary applications of a more generalized version of the model to non-state societies, non-human societies, and organized crime families. Gain insights into the complex dynamics of social structures and their impact on conflict resolution across various contexts.
