The Collapse of Ecosystems
Explore the collapse of ecosystems through a lecture by Doug Erwin focusing on mass extinctions, particularly the End Permian and Triassic events. Delve into marine diversity, extinction patterns, and the role of volatility in shaping Earth's history. Examine the Paleobiology Database and its significance in understanding past life. Investigate the temporal resolution of geological events and the internal dynamics of ecological networks. Learn about the Siberian Flood Basalt and its potential impact on mass extinctions. Discover the work of Jonathan Payne and Jax Akatsuki, including the Akatsuki logistic model and comparisons between logistic and exponential growth. Analyze the emergence of new species, plants, and clades during periods of increased taxonomic diversification. Gain insights into the principles governing ecosystem collapse and recovery, with a focus on the Triassic period.
