Demonology - Intelligence in Physics & Biology
Explore the intersection of physics, biology, and intelligence in this thought-provoking public lecture by Jim Crutchfield at the Santa Fe Institute. Delve into the historical use of "demons" in scientific explanations, from Laplace's theory of chance to Darwin's natural selection. Discover how physics has invoked intelligence to understand basic phenomena and learn about the emerging field of information physics. Examine concepts such as deterministic chaos, the Second Law of Thermodynamics, and Claude Shannon's information theory. Investigate the role of patterns in the natural world and language, and gain insights into intrinsic computing. Uncover how this new paradigm may transform our understanding of information processing embedded in nature.
