Population Growth - Density Effects and Mathematical Models
Explore the factors influencing population growth in this 43-minute lecture from Yale University's "Principles of Evolution, Ecology and Behavior" course. Delve into the mathematics of logs and exponents used in population growth studies. Examine how predators, resources, and density act as checks on population expansion. Understand the impact of population density on growth rates by analyzing intraspecific versus interspecific interactions. Investigate age effects on population dynamics and review real-world examples of population growth patterns. The lecture covers key concepts including introduction to population growth, mathematical foundations, age-related effects, case studies, density-dependent factors, and concluding insights. Access complete course materials through the Open Yale Courses website for a comprehensive understanding of population ecology principles.
