Examine how the polis developed through the rise of the hoplite farmer, as argued by Professor Donald Kagan. Discover the polis's presence in Hesiod's work, understand the concept of citizenship, and learn about Greek farmers' role in shaping the polis. Investigate property holding, internal colonization, and the evolution of farming practices. Conclude with an analysis of the political implications of these developments in ancient Greek society.
