Increasing Overland Truck Range Through Aerodynamic Improvements
Explore the aerodynamic improvements for overland trucks in this 10-minute video focusing on the home-made Leviathan project. Begin with a CFD simulation of a standard boxy overland truck, revealing its high drag coefficient. Compare this to the initial Leviathan design, which already shows significant improvement. Examine proposed tweaks to further enhance aerodynamics, including air deflectors, softer angles, and modified bumper design. Discover how these small changes lead to a 4% drag reduction with minimal impact on weight or cost. Learn the importance of incorporating aerodynamics early in the design process for long-term benefits. Gain insights into basic aerodynamic concepts, simulation techniques, and testing methods applicable to various vehicles and aircraft.
