Professor Motoki Takahashi discusses how Africa, while celebrated as a frontier of global economics and continent of hope, still faces complex socioeconomic challenges that concern the international community. Learn about the intersection of progress and challenges in African economies through both macroeconomic data and detailed insights into the daily lives of those considered impoverished. Consider what actions should and should not be taken by Japanese society while gaining perspective on how East African people navigate both hope and hardship. Professor Takahashi, born in Tokyo in 1959, specializes in the economics and political correlations of East and Southern African nations, particularly Kenya and Tanzania, and is the author of "Development and State: Introduction to African Political Economy."
