Raising Abstraction Levels: Engineering Platforms with Kubernetes Operators
Explore how to engineer higher-level abstractions into Platform Orchestrators using Kubernetes operators and Custom Resource Definitions (CRDs) in this 16-minute conference talk. Discover techniques to lower developers' cognitive load by creating self-service platform tools and abstracting away infrastructure complexity. Learn how to leverage Kubernetes as a powerful tool for platform engineering, focusing on the design of a Platform Orchestrator or Control Plane. Examine patterns for developing fit-for-purpose abstractions using Kubernetes Operators and CRDs, with practical examples of microservices in software engineering and data products in data engineering contexts. Gain valuable insights into effectively engineering cloud-native platforms and empowering developers to work more autonomously and focus on delivering value.
