Why Building an Observability Platform Is Still Challenging - PlatformCon 2023
Explore the challenges of building an effective observability platform in this 19-minute conference talk from PlatformCon 2023. Delve into the complexities of implementing "you write it, you run it" strategies and the crucial role of observability in platform engineering. Examine three fundamental aspects that make observability platforms difficult to create and maintain: the unobservable goal of insight, the necessity of GUIs for data visualization, and the extensive configuration requirements. Gain valuable insights from Sam Boyer, Principal Engineer at Grafana Labs, as he discusses why traditional platform tools and techniques fall short in the realm of observability. Learn about the unique challenges faced by platform teams when developing observability-specific components for Internal Developer Platforms.
