Shorten the Feedback Loop: How to Optimize Developer Experience and System Design
Explore how to optimize developer experience and system design to shorten feedback loops in this 15-minute conference talk from PlatformCon 2023. Discover why these two aspects should be considered collectively to improve application development workflow. Learn about the "DX first" system design philosophy and its role in minimizing technical debt while maximizing feature delivery. Examine strategies for building platforms that streamline application development and eliminate impediments for engineers and teams. Gain insights into structuring complex systems to maintain high availability, low defect rates, acceptable performance, scalability, quick feature delivery, and developer morale in rapidly changing technological environments. Presented by Dave Thompson, Software Engineering Manager at Workday, this talk challenges the traditional separation of software architecture and developer experience, proposing that both share the common goal of reducing cycle time between development, testing, and release phases of the software lifecycle.
