Building SpiceDB: A gRPC-First Database

Building SpiceDB: A gRPC-First Database

Explore the journey of building SpiceDB, a specialized database that chose gRPC as its primary query interface, in this 29-minute conference talk by Jimmy Zelinskie from authzed. Discover why the team opted for gRPC over traditional SQL, and delve into the lessons learned while modeling APIs for this unique database. Learn about the process of maintaining clients across popular programming languages, gain insights into recommended tools and custom-built solutions, and understand the optimizations implemented to ensure gRPC's success in the SpiceDB project. Gain valuable knowledge about alternative approaches to database design and query interfaces in this informative CNCF presentation.
