Zenchiku's Hollow Places - Encounters with the Non-Human

Watch a 25-minute conference presentation from the 5th International Association for Japanese Philosophy Conference exploring Zeami Zenchiku's philosophical concepts of hollow places and encounters with non-human entities. Delve into Buddhist perspectives on non-sentient beings achieving enlightenment, examine Zenchiku's syncretic aesthetic theories, and analyze the specific case study of Tatsuta through a contemporary environmental lens. Learn how traditional Japanese philosophical and aesthetic concepts intersect with modern ecological concerns during the Capitalocene era. The talk, delivered by Daryl Jamieson from Kyushu University, includes a Q&A session and was recorded at Ryuenkaku, Nanzenji in March 2021.
