Warflying: Aerial WiFi Network Detection and Analysis from a Cessna
Explore the fascinating intersection of wardriving and aviation in this DEF CON conference talk that investigates the possibilities and limitations of capturing WiFi signals from a Cessna aircraft. Learn about the technical preparation, equipment selection, and safety considerations required for warflying missions, while discovering key findings about WiFi signal propagation at different altitudes. Gain insights into the effectiveness of aerial WiFi scanning, including detection ranges from 1500 to 2500 feet above ground, data collection methodologies, and analysis techniques. Understand the practical challenges and unexpected discoveries made during multiple flight experiments, with a humorous acknowledgment that using a Cessna proves to be a notably conspicuous method for wireless access point reconnaissance.
