Structuralist Representationalism: A New Approach to Phenomenal Consciousness
Watch a 22-minute conference talk from the Models of Consciousness Conferences exploring the hard problem of consciousness through the lens of structuralist representationalism. Delve into the limitations of tracking representationalism and phenomenal intentionality theory before discovering how structuralist representationalism offers a novel solution. Learn how this approach combines the representationalist perspective with structuralist views of representation, proposing that conscious experience emerges from exploitable structural correspondences between neural activation spaces and quality spaces. Understand how this framework provides a physicalist account of phenomenal consciousness while avoiding the pitfalls of traditional tracking representationalism.
