Enabling Large Block Sizes to Facilitate Adoption of Large Capacity QLC SSDs

Learn about the evolution and importance of Large Block Sizes (LBS) in a technical presentation from Samsung engineers that explores how increasing SSD Indirection Unit sizes impact storage systems. Dive into a 16-year R&D journey examining filesystem block sizes larger than system page sizes, which enables seamless adoption of SSDs with large IUs. Explore critical considerations for storage minimum IOs, including the relationship between AWUPF and NPWG, while understanding implications for both Linux and non-POSIX environments. Discover how this technology benefits database operations and examine future ecosystem considerations, including OCP Open Rack v3 PMC and Meta's Power Loss Siren as alternatives to larger atomics.
