How Domain Experts Use an Embedded DSL
Explore a 19-minute conference talk from OOPSLA2 2023 examining how domain experts utilize embedded domain-specific languages (eDSLs). Delve into the findings of a contextual inquiry conducted with 9 participants using Mimi, an eDSL for climate change economics modeling. Discover five key themes uncovered through thematic analysis, including the significant impact of eDSL-host language interaction on user experience and the preference for domain-specific communities and code templates over host language resources. Gain insights into design considerations for future eDSLs and potential directions for DSL usability research. Learn from researchers Lisa Rennels and Sarah E. Chasins from the University of California at Berkeley as they present their study on improving eDSL adoption and practical value for specialized domains.
