Ruby Archaeology

Embark on a journey through Ruby's history in this 30-minute conference talk from RubyConf 2021. Explore the concept of "Ruby Archaeology" as Nick Schwaderer digs into historical Ruby code, inspired by _why's 2009 tweet about the transient nature of programming. Uncover interesting gems from the past, discover which code older than 12 years still runs in Ruby 3.0, and examine how coding idioms have evolved over time. For the adventurous, learn how to set up an environment to run Ruby 1.8 code from around 2008 on modern machines, offering a hands-on experience with Ruby's legacy.
