The Making of the com.lihaoyi Ecosystem
Explore the evolution and principles behind the com.lihaoyi ecosystem in this 41-minute conference talk from Scala Days 2023 Seattle. Discover how the ecosystem began a decade ago and grew in projects, usage, and maintainers. Learn about its unique approach as "executable pseudocode" and how it differs from other Scala ecosystems like ZIO, Typelevel, and Akka. Understand the core principles balancing high-performance, type-safety, power, and ease of use. Gain insights into unusual implementation techniques such as cakes, mutable state, virtual classes, and free applicatives. Examine major failures within the ecosystem and projects that didn't gain traction. Delivered by Haoyi Li, an MIT graduate and major Scala community contributor with over 10,000 GitHub stars and 7,000,000 monthly downloads for his open-source projects.
