Scaling Linux Bridge Forwarding Database
Explore scaling challenges and solutions for the Linux bridge forwarding database in this Linux Plumbers Conference talk. Delve into performance and operational issues encountered when bridging large Layer-2 domains on data center switches. Learn about innovative solutions like FDB destination port failover for faster convergence, improved API for FDB updates, and reducing FDB destination ports using lightweight tunnel endpoints. Examine these concepts in the context of multi-chassis link aggregation and Ethernet VPN scenarios. Gain insights into bridging protocols, network convergence during failures, backup ports, network overlays, and VXLAN implementations. Understand the complexities of scaling Linux bridge deployments across various environments, from hosts and hypervisors to container operating systems and data center switches.
