The Router Game

The Router Game

Participate in an interactive game that teaches the basics of IP and Ethernet protocols using only paper and pens. Divide into teams to simulate simple network infrastructures, such as computers connected by a hub and a switch. Take on roles like a PC, mobile phone, hub, switch, or router, and communicate with others following specific rules. For example, hubs broadcast messages to every neighbor, while switches populate MAC address tables. Compete to exchange messages faster than other teams in this engaging 49-minute conference talk from EuroPython 2016 in Bilbao, Spain. Learn network fundamentals through hands-on play in a format popular with interns and Linux User Group meetings.
