Persistent Memory plus RDMA, New Age Remote Device
Explore the intersection of Persistent Memory (PMEM) and Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) in this 28-minute conference talk from linux.conf.au 2022. Discover how PMEM offers byte-addressable memory with DRAM-like speed and storage-like capacity, making it attractive for various software applications. Learn about the challenges of accessing remote PMEM data using traditional TCP/IP and the motivation behind utilizing RDMA for improved performance. Examine the issues surrounding remote PMEM access with traditional RDMA, including the lack of persistence guarantees for RDMA WRITE operations. Gain insights into two proposed solutions: RPMA and RDMA extension, which address these challenges and pave the way for more efficient remote PMEM access in distributed systems.
