Desktop to Mobile - Developing for Multiple Platforms without Losing Your Mind
Explore the challenges and solutions of developing applications for both desktop and mobile platforms using a single codebase in this 52-minute conference talk from linux.conf.au. Learn how the Subsurface developers leveraged QML and Kirigami to create a Qt app that works across desktop, Android, and iOS. Discover the advantages of this approach, including code reuse and expanded user reach, as well as the hurdles faced as early adopters of Kirigami technology. Gain insights into sharing code between platforms, making functionality trade-offs, and navigating the complexities of supporting multiple operating systems. Understand the rationale behind choosing this development strategy over native app creation and acquire practical knowledge for implementing cross-platform development in your own projects.
