Down the Oregon Trail with Functional C#
Embark on a journey through software development history and functional programming in this conference talk from NDC's Copenhagen Developer's Festival. Explore the reimagining of the iconic 1971 computer game "Oregon Trail" using modern C# and functional programming techniques. Discover how the speaker tackles the challenge of redeveloping this classic game with strict constraints, including near 100% unit test coverage, immutable variables, and minimal use of traditional programming statements. Gain insights into advanced functional programming concepts such as higher-order functions, functional flows with simple Monads, and tail recursion. Enjoy a blend of retro computing nostalgia and cutting-edge programming paradigms while learning how to apply functional programming principles in C#.
