Sustainable Software Engineering - Building Carbon-Efficient Applications
Explore the emerging discipline of sustainable software engineering (SSE) in this 34-minute conference talk from GOTOpia Europe 2020. Dive into the intersection of climate science, software, hardware, electricity markets, and data center design to understand how developers can meaningfully impact the climate crisis. Learn about the eight principles of sustainable software engineering and discover techniques for building, deploying, and managing carbon-efficient applications across various domains, industries, and programming languages. Gain insights into key concepts such as carbon, electricity, carbon intensity, embodied carbon, and energy proportionality. Understand the two philosophies driving SSE and how they can be applied to create more environmentally friendly software solutions.
