Mythbusting Modern Hardware to Gain Mechanical Sympathy
Explore the intricacies of modern computer hardware in this illuminating conference talk from GOTO Aarhus 2012. Join Martin Thompson, a High-Performance Computing Specialist, as he debunks the myth that computer hardware has become too complex for average developers to understand. Gain insights into CPUs, memory, networking, and storage IO, learning how these components function and how to optimize your software for peak performance. Discover how to develop a deep understanding of your platform, akin to a racing driver's knowledge of their car, enabling you to create software that performs like a race car rather than a bumper car. This 45-minute presentation offers a unique opportunity to enhance your comprehension of hardware mechanics and apply this knowledge to improve your software development skills.
