Twitter's Quest for a Wholly Graal Runtime
Explore Twitter's journey towards implementing a wholly Graal runtime in this 54-minute conference talk. Discover how a massively distributed system like Twitter, with thousands of machines running thousands of JVMs, can benefit from small performance improvements and reduced CPU utilization. Learn about the potential for significant cost savings in electricity, cooling, and server farm size through better machine code generation. Delve into Twitter's experimentation with Graal technology to achieve these goals. Gain insights from Chris Thalinger, a software engineer with over 13 years of experience in Java Virtual Machines and compiler technology, as he shares his expertise in Just-In-Time compilation and discusses the transition from projects like CACAO and GNU Classpath to OpenJDK and HotSpot JVM.
