Being Creative with Genetic Algorithms and Typeclasses
Explore the power of typeclasses in Scala and their application in genetic algorithms through this 46-minute conference talk from Scala Days New York 2016. Discover how typeclasses enable developers to attach custom interfaces to existing code, providing flexibility not found in imperative languages. Learn to implement a genetic algorithm in Scala, define problem-specific typeclasses, and derive multiple implementations. Gain insights into testing genetic algorithms using ScalaCheck for robust confidence. Witness the creation of a visual and creative solution that illustrates the iterations and improvements of the genetic algorithm's fitness function. Benefit from hands-on examples demonstrated directly in the REPL, making this talk particularly practical for both newcomers and experienced Scala developers.
