Take Me Down to the Paradise City Where the Metric Is Green and Traces Are Pretty
Explore the evolution of observability and the role of OpenTelemetry in modern software systems in this 26-minute conference talk from SREcon21. Delve into the fundamentals of observability, tracing its roots from simple log tailing to today's complex, distributed architectures. Discover how OpenTelemetry addresses the challenges of cloud-native software by providing a vendor-neutral framework for robust observability strategies. Learn about the framework's components, including tools, APIs, and SDKs, and gain clarity on which parts are production-ready. Through practical examples in Java and Go, understand how to implement OpenTelemetry for generating traces and metrics in your applications. Gain insights into the Elastic Cloud ecosystem and microservice implementations as you explore the future of observability in software development.
