The Glitching Hour
Explore the fascinating world of image processing and glitch aesthetics in this 22-minute conference talk from Strange Loop. Delve into the structure of different image formats like Bitmap and JPEG, and understand how frequency space transforms enable significant file size reduction with minimal visual impact. Discover various techniques for corrupting image data to produce artistic glitch effects, tailored to specific file formats. Learn about compression methods, discrete cosine transforms, basis functions, quantization matrices, and the causes of image artifacts. Gain insights into data corruption processes and how to manipulate JPEG data for creative results. Join speaker Amy Wibowo as she demonstrates code designed to generate captivating glitch art, blending nostalgia with digital aesthetics.
