An Alien Lambda Calculus - Exploring Alternative Computational Models

An Alien Lambda Calculus - Exploring Alternative Computational Models

Explore an intriguing thought experiment on functional programming in this 30-minute conference talk from YOW! 2019. Dive into the concept of an "alien lambda calculus" as Chief Data Scientist Xuanyi Chew challenges conventional wisdom about the universality of computational models. Examine how different physics and philosophies might shape alternative forms of lambda calculus in extraterrestrial intelligence. Consider practical implications for compiler design and ponder fundamental questions about state management and naming in functional programming. Gain insights into the nature of computation and expand your perspective on programming paradigms through this unique blend of speculative fiction and technical analysis.
