Breaking Theoretical Limits - The Gap Between Virtual NICs and Physical Network Cards

Breaking Theoretical Limits - The Gap Between Virtual NICs and Physical Network Cards

Explore the architecture and mechanisms of IP packet transmission in Hyper-V's netvsp.ko module through this 23-minute Black Hat conference talk. Discover techniques for sending legal IP packets that exceed length limitations from the guest environment to Hyper-V. Compare IP packet processing routines between virtual NICs and physical network cards, and examine vulnerabilities in these routines that break RFC-defined theoretical limits. Gain insights into overcoming physical network card restrictions and learn new approaches for code review and fuzzing when targeting virtual NICs.
